BREAKING NEWS 🚨
CMC to IR
Christian McCaffrey // Godofredo A. Vásquez, AP
The 49ers have placed RB Christian McCaffrey on IR with Achilles tendonitis. He will miss at least the next four weeks. This is probably the wise thing to do, but don’t tell that to those who took him 1st overall.
In the meantime, Jordan Mason is a smash start every week after getting 28 carries for 147 yards and a TD in Week 1.
Injury Report 🚑
Based on recent reports, here are the statuses of other fantasy-relevant players:
👍 Expected to play:
Giants WR Malik Nabers
Lions WR Jameson Williams
Texans TE Dalton Schultz
👎 Unlikely to play:
Chiefs WR Marquise Brown is not only out for this week, but he’s now expected to miss the entire regular season. Ignore our “fade Xavier Worthy” take from Thursday…
Packers QB Jordan Love
Seahawks RB Ken Walker
Bengals WR Tee Higgins
Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson
Browns TE David Njoku
Steelers QB Russell Wilson
Vikings WR Jordan Addison
🤷♂️ Gametime decision:
Eagles WR A.J. Brown is Questionable but trending the wrong way. Since Philly plays Monday night, benching him would be the safest bet
Packers WR Jayden Reed
Bears WR Keenan Allen
Chargers WR Josh Palmer
Bears WR Rome Odunze
Colts WR Josh Downs

STARTS & SITS 🧐
Quarterback
Dak Prescott // Roger Steinman, AP Photo
✅ Start ‘Em:
Dak Prescott vs NO: In his final five home games of 2023, Dak scored at least 21.9 fantasy points in each outing and averaged 33.3 points over that span, per CBSSports’ Jamey Eisenberg. He also has scored at least 23.6 fantasy points in four of his past five home openers, so this is a great setup for Prescott in Week 2.
Jayden Daniels @ NYG: In Week 1, Daniels finished as the QB3 while leading the NFL in both goal-line carries (three) and goal-line touchdowns (two), per NFL.com’s Michael F. Florio. His rushing baseline makes him a must-start and this week's matchup against the Giants could allow him to reach new heights as a passer, too.
Brock Purdy @ MIN: Purdy has excelled throughout his career against zone defense, posting an 85.7 PFF grade against zone compared to 68.5 against man. The Vikings were a top-10 unit in zone coverage usage last season under Brian Flores and deployed zone at the fifth-highest rate in Week 1, per PFF’s Nathan Jahnke.
❌ Sit ‘Em:
Kirk Cousins @ PHI: Philly’s D isn’t what they used to be, but they’re still a tough matchup. And Cousins looked really rusty in Week 1…
Per @NextGenStats, there were only 2 starting QBs in Week 1 that failed to throw a single pass over 20+ air yards:
- Daniel Jones
- Kirk Cousins— Sam Sherman (@Sherman_FFB)
6:23 PM • Sep 9, 2024
Caleb Williams @ HOU: His longest pass in Week 1 went for just 13 yards, and two of his top three WRs are Questionable. Sit him this week, but don’t give up on him long-term:
Caleb Williams' 55.7 passer rating is the 11th-worst debut among all QBs picked first overall since 1970.
The list of performances worse than his includes: John Elway (0.0), Terry Bradshaw (19.3), Matthew Stafford (27.4), Troy Aikman (40.2) and Eli Manning (45.1).— Patrick Finley (@patrickfinley)
12:17 AM • Sep 9, 2024
Trevor Lawrence vs CLE: Dak Prescott was held to just 11.5 fantasy points on 179 passing yards against the Browns last week — you’re better off streaming someone with a better matchup, like Baker Mayfield.
Running Back
J.K. Dobbins // PFN
✅ Start ‘Em:
J.K. Dobbins @ CAR: He was tied for the fastest RB ballcarrier speed in Week 1 and led the league in rush yards over expectation, while Gus Edwards was bottom five. Dobbins also saw work in the passing game and owns the highest explosive run rate (9.4%) among all RBs since entering the league in 2020, per Yahoo’s Dalton Del Don. He should see a lot of work in a positive gamescript against Carolina.
Jerome Ford @ JAX: He was the RB9 in snaps (73%) and the RB3 in expected fantasy points (20.8) in Week 1, trailing only Joe Mixon (24.3) and De’Von Achane (21.6), per Fantasy Points’ Graham Barfield. The Jags gave up the most receptions per game (6.6) to opposing RBs in 2023, so Ford should see plenty of work both on the ground and through the air.
Brian Robinson Jr. vs NYG: “Robinson was actually pretty solid for fantasy managers in Washington's Week 1 loss to Tampa Bay—15 total touches for 89 yards and a TD. Perhaps even more importantly, even with the Commanders trailing for much of the game, Robinson had over twice as many touches as Austin Ekeler.” — FootballGuys’ Gary Davenport
A huge week 1 winner that isn’t being discussed enough is Brian Robinson. He looked awesome as a pass catcher and dominated the rushing snaps.
Robinson may end up benefitting from having a mobile QB like Daniels, where red zone attention shifts to JD— Fantasy Year Round (@FantasyYrRound)
1:27 AM • Sep 11, 2024
❌ Sit ‘Em:
Zamir White @ BAL got out-snapped and out-produced by Alexander Mattison last week and gets a tough matchup against Baltimore (Las Vegas has a league-low 16.5-point implied team total), per Dalton Del Don.
D’Andre Swift @ HOU: Swift saw just 10 touches in Week 1, and now takes on a Texans D that has allowed an average of just 73.6 rushing yards per game to visiting backs dating back to last season, and held Jonathan Taylor to just three yards per rush last week, per SI’s Michael Fabiano.
Javonte Williams vs PIT: He was outplayed by Jaleel McLaughlin, who had more carries (10) and total touches (15) in Week 1, and faces a stout Steelers defense in Week 2.
Wide Receiver
Chris Godwin // FOX Sports
✅ Start ‘Em:
Chris Godwin @ DET: He led Bucs receivers in routes (27), targets (eight), catches (eight) and receiving yards (83) in Week 1, while running 44.4% of his routes from the slot, per Michael F. Florio. In a game with an over/under set at 51.5, Godwin should get plenty of chances to eat.
Jameson Williams vs TB: Jamo went off in Week 1, finishing with five catches for 121 yards and a TD on nine targets. Much like with Godwin, bet on this game being a shootout and ride the hot hand with Williams.
Jameson Williams was one of only five ball carriers to hit over 21 MPH in Week 1, per NGS.
He had yards after the catch in both the short and intermediate areas, won big on a double move, and is a threat around the outside in the run game
— Shawn Syed (@SyedSchemes)
8:50 AM • Sep 12, 2024
Malik Nabers @ WAS: Last year, Washington gave up the most fantasy points per game to outside WRs and team WR1s, while giving up five games of 35+ fantasy points to opposing WRs (two more than any other team), per Fantasy Points’ Jake Tribbey.
❌ Sit ‘Em:
Ladd McConkey @ CAR: He led the team in targets (7) and scored a TD in Week 1, but was third on the team in routes run — Josh Palmer (96% route share) and Quentin Johnston (82%) were the primary boundary receivers, per Graham Barfield. With the Chargers expected to be ahead much of this game, it’s unlikely for Ladd to see the volume needed to be in your lineup.
Calvin Ridley vs NYJ: The Jets have now allowed just five passing TDs to receivers in their past 23 games going back to 2022, per Jamey Eisenberg. Expect Sauce Gardner and company to lock down the Titans passing game.
Jayden Reed vs IND: Assuming he plays and Jordan Love doesn’t, Reed is still better left on your bench. Backup QB Malik Willis has just a 52.2% career completion percentage and has yet to throw a TD.
Tight End
Mark Andrews // ESPN
✅ Start ‘Em:
Mark Andrews vs LV: He should bounce back in Week 2. He played 74% of the snaps in Week 1, but it was clear the Chiefs’ gameplan was to completely blanket him:
Mark Andrews getting the bulk of zone attention to open the shallow check to Isaiah Likely in the late second quarter.
The following play, the same thing vs Andrews and an attempt to a crossing route underneath to WR.
Ravens took what Chiefs gave them. They gave them Likley. x.com/i/web/status/1…
— Matt Waldman (@MattWaldman)
4:39 PM • Sep 6, 2024
Colby Parkinson @ ARI: He ran the most routes among TEs in Week 1, per CBSSports’ Heath Cummings. And with Puka on IR, more opportunities could be on the horizon for Parkinson.
❌ Sit ‘Em:
Evan Engram vs CLE: A lot of Engram’s production last year came with Christian Kirk out:
Nobody is talking about Evan Engram’s splits with Christian Kirk
Without: 19.3 PPG, 10.4 targets
With: 11.63 PPG, 7.6 targetsDrastic splits. Give me Kittle and Ferguson over Engram.
— Chris O'Brien (@17gamepace)
2:46 PM • Aug 9, 2024
With Kirk healthy and Brian Thomas Jr. coming on strong as well, the targets are limited for Engram. Factor in a tough match-up against Cleveland, and you can comfortably sit the Jags TE if you have a decent second option.
Pat Freiermuth @ DEN: The Steelers were dead last in pass rate over expectation (-9.1%) and operated with the ninth-slowest pace (31 second in between snaps), per Graham Barfield. Avoid.
BEST BETS 💰
🥇 Chris Godwin OVER 5.5 receptions
“The Lions’ pass funnel defense allowed 14 targets to the slot in Week 1. Chris Godwin is going to see ample opportunities for receptions. In Week 1, Godwin led all Bucs receivers with eight catches on eight targets for 83 yards and a touchdown, accounting for a 27-percent target share and 30-percent target rate.” — FantasyPros’ Andrew Erickson
🥈 J.K Dobbins OVER 55.5 rushing yards
Expect the Chargers to run it down Carolina’s throat. And Dobbins was their go-to guy for that last week.
🥉 Rashid Shaheed OVER 40.5 receiving yards
Shaheed is known as the Saints’ zone beater, and the Cowboys played the fourth-most zone coverage among defenses in Week 1 per FantasyPoints data (84%).
